On classic Kawasaki dual-sports, adventure bikes like the KLR650, and vintage motocrossers like the KX250, the rearside of the fuel tank is secured using a specific sandwich arrangement: the frame bracket sits on the bottom, the OEM part #92075-1660 (also known as 92075b) rubber grommet sits in the middle, and the fuel tank mounting tab rests on top. A factory collar, washer, and mounting bolt pass directly through the center of the grommet, squeezing the assembly down into the frame structure to lock the tank into place.
Over decades of engine vibration, weathering, and tank removals, the original rubber factory grommets undergo heavy compression set. They dry-rot, split apart from being over-torqued, or completely fall out during maintenance. When this cushion fails or goes missing, the fuel tank loses its isolated mount, causing massive engine buzz through the chassis, tank misalignment, and severe metal-on-metal wear that can crack the mounting tabs.
